The b/w map details below are credited to Philip Durell, 1745
in my opinion they would certainly have been used by Monamy for his painting

Emanuel Bowen 1747: where would he have got these details, if not from Philip Durell ?
Possibly from J.H.Bastide.

MAP SOURCES

Louisbourg
by Capt. Philip Durell, 17 June 1745
From The Royal Navy and North America: The Warren Papers, 1736-1752; edited by Julian Gwyn

The above fortification, presumably housing a battery of 20 cannon in front of the outward-facing gate to Louisbourg town, does not seem to feature in Monamy's painting, or in the larger plan of the harbour.

According to Bowen's plan, the above building housed a battery of 40 cannon.
